Oyo abduction

The Nigerian Senate has dismissed Governor Seyi Makinde's call for a United Nations investigation into the abduction of over 45 pupils and teachers in Oyo State, asserting the matter falls under domestic jurisdiction.

The principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, has recounted the harrowing details of her 56-day captivity alongside 45 pupils and teachers after a terrorist attack on multiple schools in Oyo State. She described forced night treks, beatings of children, and the targeted killing of two male teachers.

The Nigerian Army has recounted operational difficulties in rescuing abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State, citing dense forest terrain as a major obstacle. The successful rescue was welcomed by political leaders and security officials.

The African Democratic Congress has commended the rescue of victims from a school abduction in Oyo but urged the federal government to extend similar urgency to ongoing hostage situations in Borno and Kwara.

Thirty-nine pupils and seven teachers abducted in Oyo State have been rescued after 56 days in captivity. The presidency confirmed their handover to Governor Seyi Makinde, who revealed they will not immediately reunite with families for medical and psychological assessment.
